Ugent Professor Luc Taerwe receives International Award

On October 23, the ‘Shanghai International Science and Technology Cooperation Award’ was handed over to Em. Prof. Luc Taerwe, Director of the East Asia Platform of Ghent University, one of the members of the BCECC. The ceremony took place at Tongji University in the presence of H.E. Mr. Bruno Jans, Belgian Consul General in Shanghai and Prof. Xianzhong Zhao, Vice President of Tongji University. It is the first time that the award competition was open for overseas scientists who made unique contributions to the scientific life of Shanghai.

Prof. Taerwe has a long-standing scientific cooperation with Tongji University in Shanghai, which is the number one in civil engineering in China. In 2017 he was the co-founder of the Sino-Belgium Joint Laboratory for Industrialized Construction incorporating the State Key Laboratory for Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering at Tongji University, the Magnel-Vandepitte Lab for Structural Engineering and Building Materials at Ghent University and Shanghai Construction Group. He was the (co)supervisor of more than 20 Chinese PhD students. He also established cooperation with several other universities in China.
