On 17 June 2021, the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Changchun Municipal People’s Government Cooperation and Exchange Office organized their hybrid event “China-EU Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation Cloud Summit” to highlight the many business opportunities Changchun holds. Changchun is the capital city of Jilin province in Northeast China, and is well-known as the ‘City of Cars’. Aside from being an important industrial base for the automotive sector, it is also one of the 4 ‘National Garden cities’ because of its high urban greening rate. The city offers unique advantages and is rapidly developing in sectors such as intelligent manufacturing, 5G digitization, modern agriculture and food-processing and cross-border e-commerce among others.

During the event, high level officials from Changchun and foreign representatives from important companies in the relevant sectors showed their insights on European-Chinese cooperation and presented their businesses. They discussed the path to carbon neutrality and how China and Europe can cooperate on this topic and how to deepen EU-China cooperation during the current situation, amongst others. Moreover, a major project agreements signing ceremony also took place, to highlight the connections between the European Union and China.

We are happy that the event enabled all participants to deepen their conversation with one another and to gain some new insights on how to cooperate together in the future. We look forward to continuing to support these initiatives in the future and to deepen cooperation with the daily work of our Chamber.
