On January 21 2025, the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC) hosted an exclusive meet-and-greet with the new Chinese ambassador for the EU, H.E. Mr. Cai Run.
The Chamber was delighted to welcome our members to learn firsthand about the strategic relationship between the EU and China, and Ambassador Cai’s vision for the future. This networking event offered an in depth discussion and Q&A session between Mr. Dewit, Chairman of the BCECC, and Ambassador Cai, followed by a networking lunch.
Assuming office in 2024, Ambassador Mr. Cai brings extensive experience from a distinguished diplomatic career, previously serving as Ambassador in Portugal (2015-2020), and Israel (2021-2024). Throughout his career, he played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration in technology, and expending economic and cultural ties under the Belt and Road initiative. Notably, Ambassador Mr. Cai served as Minister Counselor at the Embassy in Washington D.C. from 2005-2008, contributing to U.S.-China dialogue on strategic and economic issues.
During the discussion, several key topics relating to Belgium and the broader EU were explored, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and benefit through diplomatic ties. Ambassador Cai also addressed several concerns raised by key EU stakeholders regarding the issue of market oversaturation in China, emphasizing China’s role as a collaborative business partner rather than a competitor.
The event concluded with a networking lunch, providing our members with the opportunity to further deepen ties and explore new collaborations.
