Guided visit of Kanaal (Axel Vervoordt Gallery)

17/05/2024
Wijnegem

The BCECC is glad to invite you to a Guided visit of Kanaal (Axel Vervoordt Gallery) during Antwerp Art Weekend on Friday May 17, 2024 at 13:30 CET.

Kanaal is an industrial site located in Wijnegem on the Albert Canal where the headquarters of Axel Vervoordt Company are located. Over the past 50 years, the family business has built up an international reputation in the art and antiques trade and in revitalizing historic buildings and furnishing homes with art.

The historical complex from the 19th century was converted in collaboration with important Belgian architects and was completed in 2017 with exhibition spaces for the Axel Vervoordt Gallery and with permanent art installations by Anish Kapoor, James Turrell, Marina Abramovic and others. Since 2014, the gallery has a venue in Hong Kong where the link with local art community is tight. Kanaal currently shows work by Kimsooja, Angel Vergara, Bosco Sodi and a group show ‘Bridge’ presenting a large installation from Chinese artist Jaffa Lam.

During the visit, we will explore the power of art in navigating complex cultural differences, while offering potential dialogues toward coexistence and peace. Join our visit to discover the history of the gallery and its relation with China.
