On May 7, the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC) hosted the event “Bridging Markets: Belgium–China Business Exchange” in Brussels, bringing together participants from the Belgian and Chinese business communities, academia, and industry. The event provided a valuable platform to discuss the evolving business landscape between Belgium and China and to explore opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, regulation, and emerging technologies.
The program opened with welcome remarks by Mr. Renaud Hendrice, Partner at Deloitte Belgium. This was followed by a keynote presentation by Prof. Bart Dessein, Professor at Ghent University, who shared insights on navigating between economic dependency and autonomy in the current geopolitical context.
During the expert sessions, Mr. Xu Lin, Manager, and Mr. Tomo Matsui, Senior Manager at Deloitte Belgium, presented the challenges and opportunities for Chinese companies in Belgium and Europe. Mr. Gert-Jan van Eck, COO of Huawei Benelux and Ireland, then offered perspectives on what Chinese companies can bring to the Belgian market.
The event also featured a panel discussion on “Enhancing Belgium-China Collaboration – Practical Perspectives,” joined by Belgian and Chinese business leaders. The panel included Mr. Eric Touati, Business Director of the China Belgium Technology Center (CBTC), Mr. Lionel Kohn, Senior Investment Project Manager of AWEX, Mr. Matthias Lommers, Partner of Global Employee Service at Deloitte, and Mr. Gert-Jan van Eck, COO of Huawei Benelux and Ireland.
The event concluded with closing words by Mr. Bernard Dewit, Chairman of the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC). Following the formal program, participants gathered for a networking lunch, offering an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen connections, and explore future cooperation between Belgian and Chinese stakeholders.
We sincerely thank all speakers, partners, and participants for contributing to this meaningful event.
