On June 25, 2025, the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC) hosted an insightful seminar highlighting the latest trends in artificial intelligence across China and Europe in Diegem. The event brought together industry professionals and experts to discuss how open-source models, data infrastructure, and regulation are reshaping the global AI landscape.

The event was opened by BCECC Chairman Mr. Bernard Dewit, who welcomed participants and set the stage for the day’s discussions, followed by an insightful presentation by Edouard Van Belle of DXC Technology, who shared his expertise in integrating AI, RPA, and process innovation into business transformation strategies. He also shed light on the rapid advancement of AI in China, particularly the rise of open-source models such as DeepSeek, and how they are democratizing AI access and transforming development workflows.

The conversation was then continued by Mr. Jelle Hoedemaekers, Expert Data Economy at Agoria and Coordinator of the Belgian Gaia-X Hub. In his presentation, Mr. Hoedemaekers compared Chinese and European digital tools and emphasized the importance of data sovereignty. He also provided a deep dive into the EU’s AI Act, explaining its core principles, legal implications, and how it will impact European companies and their ability to innovate responsibly.

The session concluded with a lively Q&A, where guests explored topics such as macroeconomic policy, organizational challenges, and how companies can seize the opportunities presented by the rapidly evolving AI sector.
