In recent years, China has become Africa’s largest trade partner, while Chinese investment and finance flows to the continent have also grown significantly. As such, China has become a major player on the continent, a partner with whom African countries must foster mutually beneficial economic relations in their development process.
In general, China’s engagement has received positive return as it has been a major pawn in the impressive development of Africa. Some observers however, point at the unbalanced relationship and lack of interest of a long-term cooperation. Yet, some other see a huge potential for the continent and are calling for a strong China-Africa partnership.
The Belgian-Chinese chamber of Commerce and the Africa Business Club – Brussels decided to bring the topic to the table and attempt to answer following questions: What are the challenges and opportunities for both sides? How can China’s presence be beneficial to Africa, and what can African countries bring to the cooperation? And what is the response of Europe? What are the main drivers of the success of this relationship? How is this relationship evolving? And last but not least, is this a win-win relationship?
To discuss about this, The Africa Business Club – Brussels and the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC) are pleased to invite you to a debate on ‘China-Africa: A Win-Win Partnership?’ on January 24, 2019 in Brussels.
