Will China seek an expanded regional role? Or does it have superpower’s ambitions? These are some of the gripping questions that will be discussed by Mr. Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, French former top diplomat, in the BCECC’s webinar “Can China take the lead in a reshaping world?” on September 21, 2023 at 11:00 CET (17:00 CST).

Mr. Gourdault-Montagne joined the French Foreign Ministry in 1978, and subsequently served as French Ambassador to Tokyo from 1998 to 2002, Senior Diplomatic Counsellor to the former French President Jacques Chirac, G7/G8 sherpa, French Ambassador in London, Berlin and Beijing, as well as Secretary-General of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

In his book “Les autres ne pensent pas comme nous”, Mr. Gourdault-Montagne brings to life the major diplomatic events that have marked France from Mitterrand to the present day. He highlights the importance of understanding developments in China in order to understand contemporary challenges.
