On June 12, 2025, the Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC) and BDO Belgium’s China Desk welcomed members and entrepreneur friends to a unique networking afternoon at one of Belgium’s most iconic breweries, De Halve Maan, in the picturesque city of Bruges.

After a lovely networking luncheon in the brewery’s charming restaurant, a combination of insightful presentations focused on ESG and sustainability in logistics began in the presence of Mr. Carl Decaluwé, Governor of West Flanders, who took the floor first to discuss the long-standing cooperation between the province of West Flanders and Zhejiang Province, and the province’s recent trade mission to Zhejiang. Mr. Ruben Declercq, Sales Director of International Car Operators (ICO), provided an overview of the energy reserves and logistical capacity of the Zeebrugge region, and emphasized its strategic importance as a key gateway to the European market for Chinese logistics companies. Mr. Bernard Moyson, expert at BDO, then addressed the shifting agenda driven by sustainability goals in the corporate world. He explored the challenges and opportunities companies face in response to governmental policies on industrial decarbonization.

The afternoon concluded with a memorable guided tour through the heart and history of De Halve Maan. Guests discovered the inner workings of the brewery, from its intricate filtering processes to its innovative beer pipeline through Bruges. This immersive experience left all the guests with a deeper appreciation for West Flanders’ commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability.
