The EU’s Evolving China Policy: What to Expect?

2026-11-24
Online

The recent understanding between the European Commission and China’s Ministry of Commerce on trade in hybrid vehicles marks a significant development in EU-China trade relations. In his latest “Watching China in Europe” newsletter, Mr. Noah Barkin highlights how a united European approach and the use of economic leverage can deliver results, while challenges such as China’s trade surplus with the EU and Europe’s growing dependencies remain.

These developments raise broader questions about the future direction of EU-China policy. As the EU seeks to protect its economic interests while navigating strategic challenges and trade tensions with China, its policy choices will have important implications for European companies trading with or operating in the Chinese market.

The Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC) is pleased to invite you to our upcoming webinar, “The EU’s Evolving China Policy: What to Expect?”, on 24 November 2026 at 10:00 CET, featuring Mr. Simon Wells, Chief European Economist at HSBC, and Mr. Noah Barkin, Senior Advisor at Rhodium Group, Visiting Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States and creator of the “Watching China in Europe” newsletter.

Drawing on their respective expertise in economics and EU-China relations and transatlantic China policy, Mr. Wells and Mr. Barkin will offer complementary perspectives on the forces influencing the EU’s China policy and the considerations likely to shape its future direction.
