The European Commission has published the text of the EU-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI), which was signed on 30 December 2020, today on 22 January 2021. The agreement will become binding for both parties under international law once China and the EU have completed their internal legal procedures.

The CAI highlights the continuous strengthening of cooperation between the two parties since diplomatic relations were established back in 1975.

It will significantly improve the market access conditions for European companies in China and help to rebalance the assymmetry when it comes to market openness.

The agreement states that China and the EU remain committed to an economic relationship based on reciprocity and transparency, hereby taking into account sustainable development and social responsibility.
