The 2018 EU-China Tourism Year (ECTY) will officially be launched at the opening event in Venice on January 19.
During this year, the ECTY will see numerous events including high-level political conferences, business summits as well as B2B matchmaking workshops for tourism operators, but also webinars and public events attractive to Chinese visitors and investors, all organized in order to meet the 4 main objectives decided jointly by the European Commission and China:
• promote lesser-known destinations.
• improve travel and tourism experiences.
• provide opportunities to increase economic cooperation.
• create an incentive to make quick progress on EU-China visa facilitation and air connectivity.
As capital and center of Europe, Belgium will actively be involved in the ECTY by organizing activities and special events in Han-sur-Lesse, Durbuy and Brussels, the most symbolic action being wrapping the Atomium with Chinese and European flags for a period of one month from September 15 to October 15.
